Retail Crime

Shop workers across Bournemouth East are facing unacceptable violence and abuse.

As your Labour candidate for Bournemouth East MP, I recently brought together local supermarket shop workers and independent managers and owners to discuss retail crime. In a meeting kindly hosted by The Larderhouse on The Grove, violence and abuse against staff came up as a major problem.

As your Labour candidate for Parliament, I need to hear from you. I need to know about your experiences of shoplifting, wholesale looting, and abuse and violence in shops, as a customer, worker, or manager and owner.

Retail crime has been a rising at a shocking rate across the UK, with a recent report from the Co-op Group highlighting that shoplifting and anti-social behaviour have jumped 35% year-on-year, with more than 175,000 incidents recorded in the first six months of 2023 – almost 1,000 incidents every day. Enough is enough.
