Breaking Ground on the Coast at Royal Bournemouth Hospital
Breaking Ground on Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s Latest Project
Published: 7 November 2024
The Coast building will provide 110 new beds, a larger kitchen, and modern, adaptable spaces for our local NHS.
I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news for Bournemouth’s healthcare: construction has officially started on the Coast Building at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
It was a pleasure to attend the groundbreaking ceremony along with hospital leadership, Darren Crooke CBE from the New Hospital Programme, and some of the amazing staff from the hospital.
As a name, “Coast Building” says it all — staff wanted something that captured the hospital’s proximity to the beach and our gorgeous coastline, and they nailed it. Nothing could complement “BEACH”, the hospital’s other new project due to open in 2025, better.
Sustainability is also a big part of this project. The building will feature renewable energy supported by solar panels, helping to reduce its carbon footprint while meeting modern healthcare needs. It’s great to see such a forward-thinking approach, especially as we strive to adapt to a growing and changing population.
Most importantly, this expansion signals a real commitment to providing safe, high-quality healthcare. With an additional 110 beds, staff will have more space to treat patients and shorter waiting times—so people can get the help they need, closer to home.
The hospital hopes to open the new facility by the end of 2025, and I can’t wait to see it up and running.
