I’m proud to welcome an additional £1.7 million of funding for renewable energy projects for our local NHS trust, University Hospitals Dorset (UHD).

Great British Energy, the Labour established public-owned company, will fund the installation of new solar panels at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, providing energy security for our NHS.

This new allotment of £1.7 million, on top of the £1.3 million granted this year, will fund additional sustainability projects across UHS sites, such as a new solar car park canopy at the front of Tringham House at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).

By cutting energy bills for the NHS, more resources can be directed to frontline support.

That means more appointments, greater access to medicine and better equipment.

The programme could save UHD up to £400,000 a year millions of pounds over its lifetime in energy costs. It also further supports UHD’s Green Plan, a commitment to aim for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

RBH is punching above its weight in securing national funding for its facilities and sustainable future.

It is an asset not just to the local community, but the wider region, and one whose future we must secure.
