Since my election, I’ve spoken to far too many residents who feel exploited, ignored, and left out of pocket by the very companies meant to manage their homes.

From sky-high service charges to rat infestations and missing reserve funds, leaseholders in Bournemouth East are being let down.

So I took their stories straight to Parliament.

In a debate on estate management companies, I raised the case of constituents affected by the collapse of Initiative Property Management, whose collapse has left some people tens of thousands of pounds out of pocket.

One constituent told me they’ve lost £80,000.

Others estimate they’re losing around £1,200 a year per flat. It’s shocking; they deserve answers and protection.

Another group of constituents are trapped paying thousands a year to another management company, despite long-term neglect of their building. Others have experienced a company leaving a secure door broken for weeks, allowing repeated break-ins and creating a serious health and safety risk.

The stories are different, but the themes are the same: overcharging. Poor maintenance. No transparency. No accountability.

I’ve called for urgent reforms to stop the cycle of exploitation. That means proper regulation, stronger financial protections for residents, and crystal-clear accountability when things go wrong.

I welcome the Government’s commitment to move quickly, but for those already struggling, progress can’t come soon enough.
